1990er Album auf Cruz/SST, coloured Vinyl, kleines Cut-Out. "Of all the likable punk available today, this ranks right near the top. Sometimes the subject matter of this L.A. band (actually from Beverly Hills - and they don't seem to care who knows it!) is mysterious (as on "Duck Song"), but most of the time it is quite substantial. The hook ("they can't take that away from me") in the slow grinder "A Different Scene" gives them stability and recalls Husker Du at their best. A couple other tracks seem to have folk rock lyrics placed in a punk setting. They get a little Dead Kennedy's-like with the X-rated lyrics of "A Pornography." I would have thought the cover of "Cheri Love Affair" to be similar, but instead it proved only to be a great pop song with alluring backup vocals. A little confusing, though, is the instrumental "Ultramental," which has nothing but total silence for at least the first couple of minutes. With the help of ALL's Bill Stevenson and Stephen Egerton as producers, drummer/vocalist Dave Naz(worthy) guides his trio through terrain others only dream of matching. The dark side of punk is here, but you are left with something else." (Option)
